Herbs are from leaves, sometimes stems. Spices are from the root, bark or fruit of tropical plants.

Don't cut into woody growth (of rosemary, sage, etc) unless trimming shape of plant. Take cuttings for use from tender stems.

Don't overwater herbs, let the bed stay dry soil level down to 6".

Don't mulch herbs in growing season, it stays too moist. Mulch for winter.

Feed Basil, Parsley and Dill, not the others. Leaves of herbs have stronger flavor if the plant avoids overly large, lush growth.
